MToS: What More Can I Say

Here is the 2nd installment of the My Type of Song project. It’s from What More Can I Say by Jay-Z (2003).

With all projects, it started with a sketch. Lucky for me I already had some clear ideas, so this process went rather quickly.

Instead of the normal process of scanning and pen-tooling in Illustrator, I went straight to the latter and hoped that I could “wing it”.

I made these blue diagonal lines as a grid to ensure that all my curves and angles were consistent. I ended up changing a few letter forms along the way that weren’t originally sketched out.

I’ve been lousy at tracking hours for personal projects lately, but I think that this was one of my faster start to finish projects. Stay tuned, as I already have installments 3 and 4 sketched out!

New Idea

Here’s something I’ve been playing with

Le Vice Flier

Long story short: my Macbook has been down since Friday (getting repaired), was able to score some studio time, and am now updating. Hand drawn/inked flier for Le Vice.

Vector Art: Blanka (pt 2)

Apologies about the lack of updates with this project. Still more to come.

Circle Design – KrosswerX

About a week ago, a fellow happened upon my site. He ended up liking my circle design (see Type page) and wanted to know if I could replicate the treatment for his company KrosswerX. “Of course!” I replied. Moving forward, I created and delivered to him a custom design. Moving even further forward, I’ve since played with it an mocked up just one of many potential shirt possibilities for it.

Stencil (2 of 3)

I wrapped this one up (inks) on the 22nd, and with my friends at Telescope, have begun the cutting process. Looking back at the rooster one, it must have taken forever (by myself), because this one is certainly taken longer than expected. I placed my phone by the picture for scale purposes.

Stencil WIP (2 of 3)

Here’s the finished inks for the 2nd stencil. While I could call it a day, I think I’m going to be adding some bubbles to give it more movement, so consider this just a preliminary version.

Stencil (1 of 3)

This is an oldie but goodie. When I lived in SD, my neighbor Asid put me on to stencils. For a moment, I was all about them. So when I first relocated back to the Bay, I drew and cut a super big one (I placed a DVD cover by it to show scale). Recently, I was convinced to turn it into part of a greater whole (re: I’m making 2 more in a similar style). So, since the inks for the 2nd one are almost done, I felt that it was only appropriate that I show the one that started it all. You may have seen it before in a previous post, but not the inks… so let’s make it official!

Graffitiami

This was an exploration in type combining both kirigami and graffiti. Done as a birthday card, it first required creating his name in graffiti and then manipulating it to work as 3D model with considerations to how the background cardstock would work with the image.

This last image is the template used in the creation of this project. Created in Illustrator.

Kirigami: Mandy

Here’s a bday card I made with Steph for her sister Amanda “Mandy”. Word.
