While in SD, I hooked up with the homie Rebellion, and after a few words, a few beers, and a few bucks, we finally put in motion to create an illustration for promotional pieces. As with any project, the first part is creating some roughs. These are probably less than 2″ square:

I didn’t have to create too many, since I’ve worked with him before and I had a good idea as to what he wanted. Nonetheless, I ended up vectorizing all three, but as they began to take shape, one definitely stood out from the pack. Moving forward, I created both a color and b/w version of the top sketch:

Pardon the length between posts – I’ve been fortunate enough to be busy these past couple months. I’m on the grind again, so expect more regularity with posts (re: not a month!)

Stencil (1 of 3)

This is an oldie but goodie. When I lived in SD, my neighbor Asid put me on to stencils. For a moment, I was all about them. So when I first relocated back to the Bay, I drew and cut a super big one (I placed a DVD cover by it to show scale). Recently, I was convinced to turn it into part of a greater whole (re: I’m making 2 more in a similar style). So, since the inks for the 2nd one are almost done, I felt that it was only appropriate that I show the one that started it all. You may have seen it before in a previous post, but not the inks… so let’s make it official!

For those on the super inside track, you already knew, but for everyone else, one of my projects has finally seen daylight – Safarees: Colby is Listening. This is a coloring book app for the iPhone/iPod Touch. For additional information and pictures about it, click either the previous link or go to the support website directly at Safarees.com. In days to follow, I’ll have a more image heavy post, but for now, here’s one of my many color attempts from the app and this link is a YouTube vid that shows it in action.

To save me the trouble of dealing with snail mail, I made some changes to my Etsy listing for DIY Animal Cubes. Instead of getting them printed and mailing them out, I’ll just send them as a nifty .pdf package. You print them on whatever you feel like printing them on (60lb cardstock recommended). They’re also recession friendly – $3 bucks! Forgot what they looked like? Here you go:
Zoo Animals

Late November, I posted a project titled Zoo Mobile. It started as a project for my Interior Design class, but due to the positive feedback from it, I knew that I would soon have to take this project further (btw, I ended up selling the mobile). Moving forward, I did revisit the project and made some changes including full graphic treatment (all six sides have new graphics), reducing the final size (now 2in square), and making it possible to hold its shape without any additional items. I’m currently working on cut/fold instructions as I intend to put this up on Etsy by Friday. In the meantime, here are pics of the new Zoo Animals.
When selling, they’ll arrive like this

Just enough room to fit small treats and/or a Charmander

See – full graphic treatment, including feet (provided that the animal has feet!)

I’m finding that collaborations are nice remedies to creative funks. Here’s my current progress on Aiko’s squirrel doodle.

Per g face g’s advice, I’ll be creating a fur brush this time around.
