Sketchies_052209

On occasion, I visit Richmond High and spend some time with the sketchbook club that was started a little over a month ago. It’s always cool to see what they’ve sketched since I’ve seen them last. Anyways, before the club started (a little after 10am), I did some doodles attempting to emulate their various artistic interests (although in a style of my own!).

Gifts from next door

While I normally don’t post anything art related (or not by me), this is the exception. Well, for one, food is art. And two, since it was given to Steph and I, we kinda do have ownership of it… so I guess this post isn’t too far off topic after all.

Anyways, we have a neighbor who’s a pastry chef. For the past three weeks, he and his wife have given us treats that he makes at work (it’s a conspiracy to get us chubby). Believe it or not, they’re tastier than they look – and they look mighty tasty!

This first one was a chocolate torte that tasted like Twix. I had a slice every morning!

Mini-lemon tarts… not too tart and just the right amount of sweet.

Tiramisu

This post is dedicated to my friend from Japan who’s looking into becoming a pastry chef. Based on what I’ve seen her design, I know that she can totally do it!

Potrero Hill

In April, I got a freelance gig from Big Think Studios. They had wanted to make a neighborhood shirt for Potrero Hill (where they’re located), and asked that I do the illustration work. It was finished in mid-April, but based on my recent shirt escapades, I remembered that I had never got around to sharing this. So, here it is:

And I’m not sure what they’ll do with it regarding size and text, but I gave them a mockup to help them visualize it

Lastly, a big THANK YOU to everyone who bought one of my EKGM shirts. That first run is completely SOLD OUT. Thanks for being so awesome!

More Xpress Illustrations

We’re at issue no. 3 for Xpress, and it couldn’t have come at a worse time! School is winding down, and I have other important (way more important) classes to attend to – but a commitment is a commitment, so here are 2 of my contributions to the last mag.

More Screenprinting

Steph and I just finished a screenprinting session for the EKGM project I’m a part of. Anyhoo, I’ll have them with me tomorrow… hit me up!

New Cover Idea

I added some bells and whistles… changed the colors… and added a white “drop shadow”.

More Experimental Typography

Today I started the process of making a cover for my typography book. To get you up to speed, the book is titled “Experimental Typography: Rock Posters from the 60’s-70’s”. Instead of just grabbing an image from the web (which was the easy way to go… ugh, based on my current school deadlines, the way I SHOULD have gone), I decided that it’d be fun to just to my own, attempting to emulate that style of typography. Well, almost 4 hours (booo) later…

btw, colors are temporary… just wanted to try it out.
