Sketchbooks

When meeting new artists, I’m never shy to ask for a sketch in my book. Unfortunately, when it comes to returning the favor, I never know what to sketch. It gets worse if a sharpie is my only medium. This dilemma caused me to hit the book (just moderately) today – with a sharpie. What follows is a collage of the least suck items on the three pages sketched. Moving forward, I’ll be sketching something like these as my contribution (I’ll get better, I swear). Sadly, it’s a harsh reminder that I don’t draw nearly as much as I should.

Crush-O-Matic

Crush-O-Matic is a Funk Festival in SF showcasing DJs, Live Art, B-boys, and fashion (read more here). I’ll be in the city that day, so I’ll be stopping by and showcasing my AM90: WTRMLNs and other art in addition to selling Baduizm prints at $5. Stop on by and show some love. Peace.

30 Min Sketch

Here’s another attempt at hatching with pen. Not as good as the previous.

Green Ink

I ffffound an image not too long ago that I’m attempting to understand/recreate. Started with a quick pencil draft (eraser a no no), went to a fine green ink pen, then sat it on texture in PS (reference used). 30 minutes later…

Sneaker Obsession

Good news – my AM90: WTRMLNs have been featured on the site Sneaker Obsession. In addition to showcasing custom kicks, they also provide news and updates to everything sneaker – what’s new, what’s coming out, relative clothing, etc. Their feature will definitely send some traffic this way, so it’s only fitting that I give the love back… so check them out! Peace.

Blog update!

I just finished updating my other blog pages. In addition to moving some pictures from the Portfolio to the Misc. section, the Baduizm x Fillmore and Infinite Sadness projects, including multiple images, have been added to the Portfolio section. Check it out! Peace.

Baduizm: Final

Finished. Unlike my previous posts, I did not record the amount of time spent on this project. To guesstimate, it was probably in the 15 hour range. The finality of this product is considerably different from what I had originally conceptualized, however, I feel that I achieved recreating that “Fillmore” look and feel. The original concept included allowing the graphic to sit on a white background and only be three colors. But some of the feedback included “predictable color palette”, and when I changed that, feedback became “you’re not done”. Anyways, I’m pretty happy at this point. The Gretch said this final rendition looks Obey-ish now. Although that had never crossed my mind during the production, I can live with that similarity. Well, enough talking, here it is!

BTW, I’ll be making this into an 11×17 print. Email or comment if you’re interested. I’ll let you know when it’s available.

Baduizm (Progress)

Nothing really new to report. Just progress. Hope to have it done by Friday. Current color palette is only temporary.

Baduizm: The Line Art

I finished the line art, which included adding the details that made it look more like E.Badu. However, I still want to remain true to the Fillmore look and feel, so I’m going to try an approach that is less me and more abstract. Here’s the finished line art:

Happy Bday to the greatest rapper ever.

Baduizm: The beginning

I’ve always liked the aesthetics of the old posters for concerts at the Fillmore. When I was working with the text on the Infinite Sadness piece, I made a mental note to later try my hand at a Fillmore-ish poster. Later has arrived. Here’s my current work in progress:
