Collabo: 31216 x Aiko

Earlier this month, I posted some doodles done via Wacom by Aiko. In an effort to collaborate with her (and cure my lack of creativity), I decided to vectorize some of the more interesting ones. Enjoy!

Ebi Sushi

Uh… I’m done. I think? I could refine it more, but I’m feeling the unfinished quality of it. Kind of like watercolor-ish. Click on the pic for slightly higher res.

Itadakimasu!

I came up with this pinup idea a few years back. Now that I have some time, and it’s the summer of ‘revisit’, I’ve decided to pursue this project. Not that I need to say it, but I’m presenting girls as sushi. I was gonna wait until I fully completed this before I posted it, but I’m excited about how it’s coming out.

Graffiti + Kirigami = Graffitiami

Admittedly, that smoosh is weird… but moving on. I’ve finished the kirigami piece for my brother, so without further ado…

Infinite Sadness (13h)

Now that I’ve laid out the track listing, I’m up to 13 hours on this project. Here are some notable things:

- The warped text for the title. It’s a lot harder to warp text in Illustrator than it is in PS. It didn’t quite come out the same as in my earlier posts, but I think it might be close enough.

- Hierarchy in the back. I basically tried to achieve this by color choice and text size. At the moment, the information on the bottom seems lost, but I’m hoping that it’ll show a little better once printed.

- Actual layout. I’m not sure about how I feel about the current empty space below the tracks. I might move it down some

Any suggestions?

Infinite Sadness (Listen)

I just got the tracklisting for the Infinite Sadness CD I’m doing (listen to it here). After a brief break, it’s back to the grind.

In other news, I hope to photograph some stuff today, including the finished Kirigami piece. I hope to have it posted later today. Peace.

Kirigami: Stage 2

6 hours. Gross. I hate that it’s taken this long and that I still have to cut it! It looks a little crazy, but I think it might turn out okay. I know arrows are overdone (and a lot of times, done incorrectly), but I’m hoping that this will be an exception.

*update* Son of a beezy. I just cut it out and folded it (took over an hour), and wouldn’t you know it, there are mistakes galore! One step forward, two steps back…

Kirigami: Stage 1

As I mentioned, I’m working on a new kirigami piece, this time, for my brother Ryan. I’ve spent at least 4 hours on this… barf. It doesn’t look like much, but just figuring out how to get this right took forever. There’s still some cleaning up to do, and it’ll be just my luck that it won’t work the first time.

*update* it works, so now I’ll make some support modifications and add some extra flair (looks pretty boring – at least in my eyes)

My First Website

Back in 2002, I took a one day class and learned the basics of HTML. Shortly thereafter, I made a website using my newfound knowledge. Fast forward to today. I did a name search on myself (to see if Google listed this blog – a BIG FAT NO!) and found (via Yahoo) my old site! It still works (although I have no idea who is hosting the images). Anyway, I’ve come a loooooong way. This goes to show that talent only gets you so far… it’s really about the amount of work you dedicate to your craft. So, I humbly present… E R I C O N L I N E

Kirigami

In my portfolio, I have a kirigami piece that I did as a gift for my friend Larah. I want to do another one (for gift purposes), but I want make it more complex than the first. However, I’ve spent the last 2 (or so) hours trying to figure out how I did the first one! Arrrrrgh.

Anyhow, I thought it be fun to let you try it yourself. The following is the template for the first one. Here’s how to do it:

First, flip the image horizontally, thus giving it a mirrored look and then print (heavy card stock is recommended).

With an exacto knife, cut along all the hard lines. All the spots marked X can be cut out completely.

Then, fold along the dotted lines (not all the same way… you’ll have to figure this one out on your own).

Yeah, my directions are crappy, but comment or send me an email if you need additional instructions.
Have fun!
